Organic Yeast Extracts
Bioreal® Organic Yeast Extracts are water-soluble savoury ingredients developed for professional food manufacturing. Available in selected paste and powder formats, they contribute rounded, umami-rich flavour to organic, plant-based and conventional food formulations.
Manufactured by Agrano in Germany, the range allows product developers to select an extract according to the required flavour profile, format, solubility and manufacturing process.

Bioreal® products supplied by MH Bioreal Organics are Vegan Australia Certified.
Product overview
Bioreal® Organic Yeast Extract is produced from the soluble components of yeast and is used to develop, deepen and round out savoury flavour. It can support a fuller flavour profile in soups, sauces, stocks, seasonings, spreads, prepared meals and plant-based products.
During yeast-extract production, the components within the yeast cells are released and the insoluble cell walls are removed. The resulting soluble extract contains naturally occurring amino acids, peptides, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals from the yeast. These components contribute the characteristic savoury and umami profile associated with yeast extract.
Unlike active yeast, yeast extract does not ferment or leaven a product. It also differs from whole yeast powder, which retains the dried yeast material and generally has a broader cereal-like or bready sensory profile.
Bioreal® Organic Yeast Extracts are available in selected paste and powder formats. Product selection and inclusion rate should be determined according to the required flavour profile, salt contribution, processing conditions and finished-product specification.
How yeast extract develops flavour
Yeast extract contains a complex mixture of flavour-active components naturally present within yeast cells. These include amino acids and peptides that can contribute savoury depth and help round out the overall flavour profile of a formulation.
One of these naturally occurring amino acids is glutamic acid, which is also present in foods such as tomatoes, cheese and soy sauce and is associated with umami taste. Yeast extract should not automatically be described as added MSG. However, any ingredient, additive or “no added MSG” declaration must be assessed against the exact formulation and the labelling requirements of the intended market.
Because yeast extract can strengthen savoury perception, manufacturers may evaluate it during salt-reduction or flavour-rebalancing projects. The achievable sodium reduction will depend on the selected extract, its inherent sodium content, the wider recipe and sensory testing of the finished product. Do not promise or state a particular percentage of sodium reduction.

Formulation considerations
The most appropriate yeast extract and inclusion rate will depend on the desired flavour profile and the wider formulation. Manufacturers should evaluate:
- Required savoury or umami intensity
- Paste versus powder handling requirements
- Solubility and point of addition
- Heat processing and finished-product conditions
- The extract’s inherent salt and sodium contribution
- Interaction with herbs, spices, proteins and other flavour components
- Finished-product colour and sensory profile
- Organic certification and ingredient-declaration requirements
- Target-market labelling and nutrition claims
Technical trials should be completed using the current specification for the selected extract.
Who it is for
Suitable for soup, sauce and ready-meal manufacturers, seasoning companies, plant-based food producers, organic brands, snack manufacturers, product-development teams, private-label businesses and food technologists seeking an organic savoury ingredient.
Relevant industries
Choosing the appropriate yeast ingredient
Organic yeast extract
Primary function: Concentrated savoury and umami flavour development
Typical consideration: Soluble ingredient available in selected paste and powder formats
Organic yeast powder
Primary function: Flavour, nutritional substance and application-specific functionality
Typical consideration: Inactive whole-yeast powder with a broader cereal-like or bready profile
Organic yeast flakes
Primary function: Savoury flavour, nutritional value and visible flake format
Typical consideration: Suited to nutritional-yeast products and formulations where flake character is desirable
Organic active dried yeast
Primary function: Fermentation and dough leavening
Typical consideration: Active microorganism used to ferment and raise dough
These ingredients serve different functions and should not be treated as direct substitutes. Selection should be based on the required flavour, functionality, format and finished-product specification.
Why Bioreal® organic yeast extract is different
Bioreal® yeast ingredients begin with Agrano’s certified organic yeast-production process. Selected yeast strains are cultivated using an organic grain-based nutrient medium and clean spring water.
The fermentation process avoids chemical nitrogen sources, synthetic vitamins and chemical growth promoters. Organic sunflower oil is used for foam control, steam is used for sterilisation, and the process does not require the repeated washing associated with conventional yeast production.
Agrano then produces soluble organic yeast extracts in selected commercial formats, giving manufacturers access to savoury ingredients supported by traceable organic production and specialist fermentation expertise.
Current product specifications, organic certification, allergen information, nutritional data and technical documentation are available to verified commercial customers on request.
