Organic Yeast Powders

Bioreal® Organic Yeast Powders are certified organic inactive yeast ingredients developed for professional savoury, nutritional and food-manufacturing applications. Available sensory profiles can contribute flavour, nutritional substance and formulation functionality across selected food, baking and fermentation processes.

Unlike active dried yeast, yeast powder is not used primarily to leaven dough. Its value lies in its flavour profile, nutritional composition and application-specific functionality, with the appropriate product selected according to the required formulation outcome.

Product overview

Bioreal® Organic Yeast Powder is an inactive, finely powdered yeast ingredient manufactured by Agrano in Germany using certified organic raw materials. It is intended for professional food production rather than use as a conventional baker’s yeast.

The available organic yeast powder has an aromatic, cereal-like to bready flavour profile. It can be used where manufacturers want to add savoury depth, nutritional substance or yeast-derived functionality without relying on an active leavening ingredient.

Its powdered format supports controlled weighing, dispersion and incorporation into dry blends and manufactured food formulations. The most suitable inclusion rate will depend on the desired flavour intensity, processing conditions and function within the finished product.

What is organic yeast powder?

Yeast powder is produced from inactive yeast that has been dried and milled into a fine, readily incorporated format. Because the yeast is inactive, it should not be confused with active dried yeast used to ferment and raise dough.

Depending on the particular product and production method, yeast powder may be selected for its cereal, bready or savoury sensory profile, its nutritional composition, or a specific function within a food or fermentation process.

It also differs from yeast extract. Yeast powder contains the dried yeast material, while yeast extract is the soluble fraction released from yeast cells and is generally selected for more concentrated savoury flavour development.

Choosing the appropriate yeast ingredient

Organic yeast powder

Primary function: Flavour, nutritional substance and application-specific functionality

Typical consideration: Inactive powder with a cereal-like, bready or savoury profile

Organic yeast extract

Primary function: Concentrated savoury flavour development

Typical consideration: Water-soluble ingredient suited to umami and flavour-building applications

Organic yeast flakes

Primary function: Savoury flavour, nutritional value and visible flake format

Typical consideration: Suitable where flake texture or nutritional-yeast positioning is desirable

Organic active dried yeast

Primary function: Dough fermentation and leavening

These yeast ingredients are not necessarily interchangeable. Product selection and inclusion rates should be evaluated against the required flavour, functionality, processing method and finished-product specification.

Why Bioreal® organic yeast is different

Bioreal® yeast is organic from the beginning of the production process, rather than being treated only as a finished organic ingredient. Agrano cultivates selected yeast strains using an organic grain-based nutrient medium and clean spring water.

The organic fermentation process avoids chemical nitrogen sources, synthetic vitamins and chemical growth promoters. Organic sunflower oil is used as the anti-foaming agent, steam is used for sterilisation, and the process does not require the repeated washing associated with conventional yeast production.

This provides manufacturers with greater transparency into how the yeast ingredient is produced, supporting products where organic integrity, traceability and carefully selected processing inputs are important.
